Wastewater Treatment Plants Build Operate Transfer Project

Akfen Environment and Water signed a Build Operate Transfer (BOT) contract with the Dilovası Organized Industrial Zone Directorate (DOIZ) on August 3, 2007 for the Construction and Operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Main Collector Line. In line with the 29-year BOT agreement, the Company’s wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 21,144 m3/day (with 11,000 m3 currently being active), sludge drying plant, and wastewater collector lines have become operational as of July 1, 2010. With this project, Akfen Environment and Water has become the implementer of the first BOT model developed for the solution to the wastewater treatment problems of the organized industrial zones in Turkey.

All the investments of the project have been completed with the company’s own sources as well as the project financing loan of the European Bank for Construction and Development (EBRD), and it has become an exemplary and pioneering project in terms of sustainable environmental investments with the treatment efficiency of the plant, state-of-the-art technology, and the benefits provided for the region.

From July 2010, the beginning of the operations, up until the date of the transfer, a total of 19.4 million m3 of wastewater, 11 million m3 of which is industrial wastewater, and 8.4 million m3 is household wastewater, has been treated in standards compliant with the EU and Turkish legislation, and has been released back to nature.

The project was transferred to Kocaeli Gebze Dilovası Organized Industrial Zone on August 1, 2019.
